Following the announcement that there was a crippling lack of funding for the care sector in the NHS Long Term plan, the news that money is being invested into a research fund with dementia and mental health in mind is a huge step in the right direction. The new £135m fund has been allocated to the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) in their mission to improve care for the ever expanding population of the UK.
Previous projects from the NIHR include a mobile app that acts a long term monitoring tool for patients with ongoing conditions, as well as a home-based care system for people recovering from heart failure which is both more comfortable and beneficial to the health of the patient, as well as being more cost-effective.
We believe that this research fund will be extremely beneficial both to people receiving care, and to those caring for them. In the coming months, we should see the positive results of the studies and the projects which come as a result of them.
