I love mints, especially peppermint and there’s just something so classically Christmassy about candy canes. Decorating the tree with candy canes is a Christmas tradition in lots of households, but don’t stop at hanging them on the tree, they also make a really versatile gift.

These white chocolate dipped peppermint sticks take just minutes to make, but wrap them in brown paper and tie a pretty ribbon around and you have a really pretty homemade gift that costs hardly anything to put together.

Choosing the right home care provider

This can feel like a very big decision, after all, your relative’s wellbeing is effectively being put into the hands of the agency that you choose. However, there is help available to help you make the right decision. Consumer rights champions Which? provides a care services directory, which includes the latest information and rankings for home care providers. You can also find more information about agencies via the Care Quality Commission, which is the industry regulator in England, for Scotland, it is the Care Inspectorate.

You will need:

  • A box of rustic looking breadsticks (supermarket own brand is fine)
  • a box of candy canes
  • 150g white chocolate
  • Clear food bags
  • Rolling pin
  • Brown paper or baking parchment to wrap
  • Some ribbon

Method:

  • Melt the white chocolate
  • Dip the breadsticks in the chocolate until coated half way
  • Set aside on baking parchment
  • Take a clear food bag and add in a couple of candy canes
  • Use a rolling pin to bash them up
  • Sprinkle over the breadsticks before the chocolate sets
  • Put to one side and wait for the chocolate to harden
  • Wrap in brown paper and tie around a festive ribbon

I also made some candy cane hearts, you can see the instructions here.

Just one box of candy canes and two bars of white chocolate plus a couple of other bits and pieces made several homemade gifts for less than £8.00.
